Stage 3 • Preparing for Baby
Preparing for Baby

Getting ready for a new baby does not have to feel overwhelming. Focus on what is practical, let go of what is not, and give yourself permission to prepare at your own pace.
Start Earlier Than You Think You Need To
The third trimester moves faster than expected. Starting your preparation in the second trimester gives you time to make decisions without pressure. Set up the nursery, build your registry, and stock the essentials before the final weeks when energy and focus are harder to come by.
Focus on the First Few Weeks
You do not need to prepare for every stage of babyhood before the baby arrives. Focus on what you will need in the first four to six weeks. Feeding supplies, sleep essentials, a few outfits in multiple sizes, and the basics for diapering. Everything else can wait until you know what your baby actually needs.
Build Your Support System Early
Practical preparation matters, but so does knowing who you can call. Talk to your partner, family, and close friends about what support will look like after the baby arrives. Meals, help around the house, or simply someone to sit with you during a hard afternoon. Having those conversations before the baby comes makes everything easier after.
Give Yourself Permission to Not Be Ready
No one is fully ready for a new baby. The preparation helps, but the real learning happens after they arrive. Do what you can, let go of the rest, and trust that you will figure out what you need as you go. Most parents do, and you will too.
