Stage 3 • Preparing for Baby
Pack for the Big Day

Packing your hospital bag is one of the most practical things you can do before your due date. Pack early, keep it simple, and focus on what you will actually reach for.
Pack by Week 36
Babies do not always wait for their due date. Having your bag ready by 36 weeks means you are not scrambling if things move faster than expected. A packed bag sitting by the door is one less thing to think about when the time comes, and that peace of mind is worth more than it sounds.
Pack for Three People
You, your partner or support person, and the baby each need their own essentials. It helps to think of the bag in three sections. What you need during labor, what you need for recovery, and what the baby needs for their first hours. Keeping those categories separate makes packing and unpacking much easier.
The Going Home Outfit Matters
The outfit your baby wears home from the hospital is one of the most photographed moments of their first days. Choose something soft, easy to put on, and sized for a newborn or small newborn. Have a backup size ready in case the fit is not what you expected. This is one detail worth thinking through in advance.
Leave Room for What the Hospital Provides
Most hospitals supply more than people expect. Diapers, wipes, basic toiletries, and recovery essentials are often available without you needing to bring them. Check with your hospital in advance so you are not overpacking things that will already be there. A lighter bag is easier to manage during an already full day.
